Five Things to Do in Austin During the Winter
Most people think of Austin, Texas as a warm-weather, summer destination. And while it does get VERY warm here during the summer, the winter is pretty mild, making it a great destination for a winter visit. If you find yourself in Austin during the winter, here are five fun things you can do. 1. See Christmas Lights- Austin has an incredible display called The Trail of Lights that is a walking path through Zilker Park full of lights. They have food and drink trailers, music and of course the beautiful lights.
You can also see amazing Christmas lights by driving down 34th Street, Congress Street or by hitting up Mozarts. Mozarts has an annual light show outside on the deck of their coffee shop. It is a great place to enjoy a hot chocolate and see the lights.
2. See a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse- The Alamo Drafthouse is an iconic Austin movie theater, who in addition to showing regular movies has holiday specialities too. For example, they offer a Christmas Vacation quote a long and other fun movie activities. Plus you can eat and drink the theater, making it the perfect Austin experience.
3. Go to a Texas Stars game- The Texas Stars are Austin's minor league hockey team. They have very discounted tickets available that often come with beers, hotdogs, prizes and more. They are actually a very good team who won the Calder Cup last year. This is a fun "wintery"activity to try.
4. Eat, eat, eat- There are so, so many amazing restaurants in Austin and shockingly all of them are open during the winter :). I rely heavily on the Eater Austin blog to tell me where I should try.
5. Hit up a museum- There are quite a few amazing museums to see while in Austin. A few of my favorites are The Texas Museum of History, The Capital (not a museum, but a tour), The Blanton, and the Umlauf Sculpture Garden.
Have you visited Austin in the winter? What are a few of your favorite things to do?
