Making a Vacation Out of Visiting Friends
One of my favorite ways to make the most of my very limited vacation time is to visit friends while I'm on vacation. Sometimes these travels take me to places I am not that interested in seeing again (Atlanta, Denver, Dallas), but sometimes they take me to places I am super excited to see (OC, NYC, Houston). Sometimes I even convince my friends to visit me in places that neither of us live! If you have a friend who you would love to see, here are a few ways to make the most out of a vacation with them: 1. Don't feel like you have to spend 24/7 with them: Often times I'll visit a friend in NYC, but I also have museum exhibits that I really want to see. I always tell the friend I am visiting ahead of time and let them know that I would love for them to join me, but that they don't have to at all! This way I accomplish my "wanderlust" goals in addition to spending time with my friend.
2. Let them treat it like a vacation as well: Visiting someone in another city comes with a lot of responsibility for the host. Often times they are the one who has to drive everywhere and pick all of the activities. I always encourage the person I am visiting to let me drive a little (or pay for an Uber) and to let me do some of the picking. This way there is a lot less stress and you can share the decision making with your gracious host.
3. Take on a new experience: Whenever I visit a city, I always try to take on a new experience. When I am visiting a friend, I try and do this as well. It's a great way to bond with your friend and to really explore a new part of the city.
