Hotel Review: Ritz Carlton Amelia Island

Even though 2014 has come to an end, I am still reminiscing about my final trip of the year to Amelia Island. My grandparents were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and took my entire family on a great trip to this beautiful beach about 30 minutes from Jacksonville. We stayed at the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island for five days and had a great time.

Unfortunately it rained and was cold pretty much the entire time we were there. The week after we were there they had 70 degree weather! Luckily we made the best of our time at the Ritz. Here are a few of the highlights.

Pools- Even though it was freezing, there are both indoor and outdoor pools as the resort that are heated. We actually spent most of our time at the outdoor pool, since the view of the ocean was really beautiful. The staff by the pool were all fantastic and since it was pretty empty they let us enjoy some of our own music while we were outside.

Beaches- It was way, way, way too cold to go in the ocean, but we did walk on the beach quite a bit. The resort has three boardwalks that go out to a great walking trail along the beach. You can also rent bikes to ride on the beach, but we mostly spent our time walking.

Spa- Since we planned to be inside a lot of the trip, I was thrilled that they had an incredible spa there. I enjoyed a great massage and the relaxation rooms, including sauna and steam room, were just incredible. The spa was not cheap, but definitely worth a little Christmas Eve splurge.

Christmas- The hotel was really beautifully decorated for Christmas. They even had the world's largest gingerbread pirate ship! The entire hotel was very festive :)

Relaxation- The view of the ocean was so beautiful that we spent a lot of our relaxation time outside. Here are my cousins enjoying the outdoor fire place with a few extra blankets! I spent A LOT of time relaxing, but the rest of my family hit up the gym for a little active vacationing.

Food- We only ate at the hotel restaurant one night, but the food at Salt was divine! The hotel actually has a speciality salt store as well that has many of the salts you can try at the restaurant. They were having a special Christmas Day dinner menu at Salt, which we all really loved.

Despite the cold and the rain, we had a great time just being together and relaxing in Amelia Island. It isn't every day that your family gets a week of fun!

How was your Christmas vacation??
